NFPA 80, Section 5.2.1 “Fire door assemblies shall be inspected and tested not less
then annually, and a written record of the inspection shall be signed and kept for inspection by the AHJ.” NFPA 80 also requires that the inspections be carried out by qualified individuals with understanding of fire rated door assemblies.


            When are fire doors needed?

    • Where a door leads to exit stairwells and horizontal exits.
    • Where a door leads to a hazardous area.
    • Where a door has an Exit sign around it.
    • Generally, where a door leads to a hallway or from one fully enclosed room to another.
